‘Tis the Season…to Slip and Fall on Ice and Snow!

Last year we released an article that outlined the dangers Property Owners face from slip and falls on their property resulting from improper removal of ice and snow. This is one of the unfortunate aspects of winter in the Northeast.

As part of our continual efforts to provide timely and useful risk management advice to property managers, building owners, manufacturers or anyone who owns or is responsible for a parking lot, sidewalk and/or pedestrian ways, we thought this might be a timely “re-release”.

In the article, ALS offers owners/property managers advice on how to close gaps in coverage by taking a proactive approach to risk transfer.  While it is common practice to use a “snow removal contractor” the actual risk transfer in that relationship is often overlooked. By clearly and effectively communicating the expectations of this process to  the contractor and having a detailed contract (complete with insurance, indemnity and waiver provisions) makes the Owner better equipped to deal with the inevitable “slip and fall”.
