LOOKING AHEAD: RISK, RESILIENCE & READINESS

LOOKING AHEAD: RISK, RESILIENCE & READINESS

A Year-End Message from the President of The ALS Group

As we close out another year and look forward to 2026, I want to thank our clients, colleagues, and friends for the trust you place in The ALS Group.  In an environment defined by uncertainty, volatility, and rapid change, that trust is never taken lightly.

This past year reinforced a lesson we see repeatedly: risk is rarely created by a single event – it is created by blind spots.   Whether driven by natural catastrophes, supply-chain disruptions, litigation trends, cyber incidents, labor shortages, or evolving contractual obligations, organizations are increasingly impacted not by what they insured, but by what they assumed was covered.

From our vantage point as independent risk consultants, several themes stood out this year:

  • Insurance markets remain selective, with greater scrutiny on risk quality and loss history.
  • Contractual risk transfer continues to be a key area to mitigate risk.
  • Property values and business income exposures are often understated.
  • Cyber and operation risks are now enterprise-wide concerns.
  • Claims outcomes increasingly depend on preparation and discipline in management.

Against this backdrop, risk management can no longer be reactive or transactional  It must be intentional, integrated, and continuously evaluated.  Organizations must have a risk management plan in place that aligns with their strategic plan.

As you plan for the year ahead, consider:

  1. Do you understand your Total Cost of Risk (“TCoR”)?
  2. Are contracts and insurance requirements aligned and enforced?
  3. Have property values and limits kept pace with inflation?
  4. Where is risk retained by choice versus by accident?
  5. Are advisors measured by outcomes rather than activity?

Here at The ALS Group, we remain committed to helping organizations answer these questions objectively and strategically.  As an independent firm – unaffiliated with any insurer, broker, or carrier – we work exclusively for our clients.

On behalf of our entire team, I wish you a healthy, successful, and resilient New Year.

Regards,

Albert Sica
